Alexander Derben studied music at the University of the Arts (HfK) in Bremen, concert conclusion with classical guitar 1998. Afterward intensive studies in audiovisual and electroacoustic music with publications in the field of new music and media art.
Concerts, performances and presentations at international music and media art festivals, a.o. Bremen, Hannover (Germany), Paris, Bourges (France), Brussels (Belgium), Los Angeles and Washington (USA) as well as in St. Petersburg (Russia), Teheran (Iran) and Mar del Plata (Argentina).
2006 Award of the Niedersachsen Lottostiftung Hannover. 2008 Award of the IFCT-Festival USA for the best audiovisual composition "Work In Progress". 2012 premiere and TV show (Tele Bocal) of the AV composition "Post Humanity Survival" at the 10th Festival International Signes de Nuit Paris. 2018 New Music Award for the audiovisual composition "Wasserwerk", Christoph & Stephan Kaske Stiftung. Honary mention for "The Worlds finest", Foundation Destellos. 2019 Nomination at the XII ° Destellos Competition for "Solar Winds AV". Short film award (2nd place) of the WFB at the Filmfest Bremen 2024 for “Bossa Velo”.
Collaborations with Elizabeth Anderson (USA), Toto Blanke (DE), Jasper van't Hof (NL), Todor Todoroff (BE), Reinhardt Hammerschmidt (DE), Ezzat Nashashibi (DE), Juan María Solare (ARG) and as curator of the Space Attack series as part of the Bremer Hausmusikwoche (DTKV) with the Atelier Neue Musik (HfK Bremen). Since 2024 member of the music action ensemble KLANK as percussionist.
2021 scholarship from the Senator für Kultur der Freien Hansestadt Bremen and 2022 another scholarship from the Musikfonds. CD recordings at Aliso Records as artist and producer, two solo albums there, available on iTunes and elsewhere. Various AV and music productions for promotion and theater, especially for the Theater Werkstatt Göttingen.
Since 2000 lecturer (git/drm/studio/composition) at institutions in Hannover and Bremen. From 2015 to 2020 foundation and management of the Freies TonStudio at the Freie Musikschule Bremen Nord. Today works as a composer and AV producer and lecturer for the Musikschule Bremen, including for digital music (Kultur macht stark, Bündnisse für Bildung).
Member of the DEGEM and the DTKV, there organisation of the Hausmusikwoche Bremen. Since 2021 first chairman of the ABK e.V. and since 2025 coordination at klangpol - Netzwerk Neue Musik Nordwest.
